Job Description

In general, contribute to all elements of the product development cycle including development of engineering specifications to meet program and business objectives, concept design for performance, cost, manufacture, and service, detailed design and analysis, prototype development, test and design verification, design documentation, and preproduction and production qualification and sustaining. Ensure adequate and timely engineering preparation to enable effective design reviews.
• Design structurally efficient coil support structures, design and integrate all major components including suspension, thermal shields, vacuum enclosure, and outer shell into a reliable, cost effective superconducting magnet
o Create concepts, 2-D and 3-D models, review and approve release documents for parts, assemblies and products, participate in tooling design, and support development of manufacturing, inspection and test instructions.
o Design hardware components, with emphasis on design to cost as well as design to function, including welds, structures, plumbing.
o Design pressure vessels and perform stress, vibration, fracture mechanics, and buckling analysis using Mathcad and finite element methods.
o Implement details consistent with ASME and PED Code requirements
o Perform sizing type calculations to support the designs.
• Support fabrication of prototype components and their qualification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

• The Mech/Cryo Design Engineer should have a clear understanding of techniques for design and fabrication of efficient, cost effective, load bearing structures. Experience with design of stainless steel and aluminum welded structures and familiarity with low cost, moderate volume fabrication techniques is required. Experience with 3D solid modeling and clear understanding of geometric positioning and tolerancing for cost effective manufacture/assembly is essential. A working knowledge of ASME pressure vessel code and ability to use finite element codes is desirable.

• Able to work cross functionally with programs, marketing, manufacturing, service, purchasing and suppliers to support current and future products.

• Able to coordinate cross functional activities to ensure efficient and timely resolution of design issues.

Education:

- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field

- M.S. or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field

- 5 years experience in engineering and/or detailed design analysis related activities

- 10 years experience in engineering and/or detailed design analysis related activities

Estimator
Minumum 10 years experience in the petroleum, petro-chem, and other heavy industry.  Prepare quantity take-offs and estimates for bio-fuel facility. Prepare accurate pricing of estimates for mechanical, piping, civil, structural, electrical and instrumentation including labor, material and subcontract items. Provide other services such as change order pricing, attend pre-bid conferences and serve as resource to other staff members. Interface with clients and contractors to provide engineering and cost data. This is a long term assignment St. Louis, MO.

Instrumentation/Electrical Engineer

Minimum 10 years experience in the design and inspection of electrical, mechanical, piping, instrument, and logic control systems. Candidate must be experienced in the design of control panels; I&C racks; P & ID’s; control instrumentation; elementary, loop, wiring, and riser diagrams, including pneumatic & hydraulic diagrams. Must also be able to specify gauges, sensors, and transducers for temperature, pressure, vacuum, flash point analysis, combustion, power quality, level, index, CNC, speed, proximity, strain, load, density, viscosity, turbidity, petroleum haze, flow, purity, PH, conductivity, particulates, and humidity. Review instrument data sheets, logic diagrams, control system specifications, loop diagrams, pneumatic instrument installation details, analyzer, custody metering, loading/unloading, in-line instruments, flare system, security system, fire alarm system and tank farm. Monitor design and drafting of instrument loop diagrams, instrument plans, and installation details. Review instrument specifications of control valves, pressure safety valves, pressure/flow instruments, in-line instruments and analyzer/chromatographs.

Candidate will serve as the Owner’s representative to monitor I&E activities during design and construction. This is a long term assignment.

Civil/Structural Engineer

Minimum 10 years experience. Site Civil/Structural Engineer to assist in monitoring upfront design and the civil/structural construction of a new bio-fuel facility.  Must have extensive experience in design and oversight of civil/structural construction work for heavy industrial plants including petroleum, petro-chem, and other heavy industrial construction.  Experience with bio-fuel plant construction is a plus.  A degree is not required although an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Technology is a huge plus.

Must have the ability to work as the on-site Owner's Civil/Structural Engineer and monitor the design process and construction work. Must be experienced in the preparation of plans and specifications for site development projects involving site grading and drainage plans, utility plans, roadway and parking lot designs, stormwater management and erosion control plans. Must have significant field experience including earthwork, excavation, borrow/fill, roads and surveying.  Candidate must be knowledgeable in general site layout concepts, permitting, pavement designs, sanitary and storm sewer designs and water distribution systems. Must have hands-on field experience with concrete placement including form building, re-bar placement, embeds, concrete placement and mix.  Must have experience with steel erection and pilings.  Must have experience with field testing of earth compaction and concrete mix acceptance (slump and cylinders). This is new facility design and construction. This is a long term assignment beginning in St. Louis, MO and then relocating to the construction site.

Pipe Support Engineers
